With those crowds comes enforcement — and a steady stream of arrests and summonses that all funnel into the same place: Long Branch Municipal Court.
Updated July 2026: The 2026 summer season is in full swing at Pier Village and along the promenade, and the court patterns described below repeat every year. Summer-weekend cases pile onto the Long Branch Municipal Court calendar fast, so getting counsel involved early matters more in July than any other month.
If you got charged here over a summer weekend, the worst thing you can do is treat it like a parking ticket. A guilty plea on the wrong charge can leave a criminal record, hit your license, and follow you back to wherever home is. Here’s the lay of the land.
The charges that fill the Long Branch docket every summer
- Underage drinking & fake IDs. The bars and oceanfront restaurants draw a young crowd, and a fake ID isn’t a slap on the wrist in New Jersey. Under N.J.S.A. 2C:21-2.1, using a fraudulent ID can be charged as an indictable offense — a felony-level charge, not a simple disorderly persons matter. A Long Branch DWI is unforgiving: under N.J.S.A. 39:4-50 a conviction can’t be expunged — it’s on your driving history for good — and though New Jersey has allowed limited DWI plea agreements since 2024, they’re never automatic. Why “just pay it” is the trap
Paying a charge is pleading guilty. For some of these offenses, first-timers may qualify for programs that keep the conviction off your record — conditional dismissal, conditional discharge for certain drug charges, or pretrial intervention for indictable matters. None of those happen if you mail in a plea. And even if you’ve already been convicted of something old, an expungement may be on the table later. The point: don’t slam the door on options you don’t know you have.
